LGBT Caucus: Senator Ricardo Lara (D-33) and Assembly Member Susan Talamentes Eggman

Senator Lara’s SB 1146 Equity in Higher Education Act

Senator Lara is of Hispanic heritage.  Thousands of Hispanics in our state benefit from religious education.  His proposed bill would allow students to sue colleges for expelling LGBT students for their lifestyle.

“The goal for me has always been to shed the light on the appalling and unacceptable discrimination against LGBT students at these private religious institutions throughout California,” Lara said.

Just today, the LA Times is reporting that Senator Lara has dropped the nasty portion of his proposed bill that has angered religious institutions.

Senator Lara and Massive Immigration

Like every other Democrat, he is a small-minded hypocrite!  Senator Lara supports massive immigration and has just authored a new law to supply immigrants with more benefits. He appears to be so self-centered and angry that he didn’t realize that he ought not to rock the boat:  the U.S. Bishops resettle more refugees and asylees than any other non-governmental organization! And all at taxpayer expense.

“Authored by Senator Ricardo Lara, Senate Bill 1159 allows all otherwise eligible applicants to obtain a professional license, regardless of their immigration status, by allowing the use of a Social Security Number (SSN) or an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) in the application process.”

Religious Institutions In Opposition

Joint Statement by Catholic Archbishop of Los Angeles Jose Gomez and COGIC Bishop Charles BlakeCurrent California law exempts religious schools from nondiscrimination laws in cases where applying these laws “would not be consistent with the religious tenets of that organization.”

This is sensible and reflects our nation’s founding principles of religious freedom. For years now, this policy has worked well, enabling church-run colleges and universities to hire personnel and establish policies and expectations regarding religious practice and personal conduct that reflect their beliefs and values.

SB 1146 proposes to drastically narrow that historic exemption so that it would only protect seminaries or other schools that train clergy and ministers.  Read more.

Bill Donahue, President, the Catholic League

The legislation, sponsored by Sen. Ricardo Lara, would mandate bathrooms based on “gender identity” rather than male-female.  It would require that married dorms be opened up to same-sex couples. It “even has the government setting guidelines for what ‘religious practices’ and ‘rules for moral conduct’ will be acceptable,” Bishops Gomez and Blake write. It could restrict a school’s ability to teach its religious faith or require student attendance at worship services, and it could be used to require that gay and lesbian clubs and activities be allowed on campus.

This goes way beyond the issue of gay and lesbian rights. It is clearly an effort to use that agenda to attack and weaken the moral foundations of Christianity. Read more.

Old Cliché:  No Rest for the Wicked

Senator Ricardo Lara is wicked because he cannot stop.  He can’t stop writing “equality for all” laws for anyone except the majority of Californians.  He can’t stop making a mess of his job as a civil servant for all Californians.

In 2015, Lara and Talamentes each sponsored the California Assisted Suicide Bill which Governor Brown signed into law.  It has further divided our communities.  The law is for a tiny few who want their doctor to use passive euthanasia.  We suspect it was legalized mostly for gay males who are dying a horrible death from AIDS.
